Princess Mononoke

While trying to take a short nap, i put on this old film i have titled "Princess Mononoke" or "mononoke hime" as it is appropriately pronounced in japanese.

It's not as commercial or "genki genki" as most anime's are nowadays but i sat through the whole movie and didn't do what was my true intention; to sleep by watching a movie.

Sorry Phil, your advice didn't work this time.

I've seen this movie about 4 times, and it's been a number of years since i've last seen it.
The movie is probably the most brilliantly written masterpiece by the same people at studio Ghibli that bough other great titles like spirited away.

Why is this movie the greatest?
Like Monin wrote earlier in regards to Futurama, it also deals with societal issues. The storyline is not complex, what is however is the writers unbelievable ability to capture human nature in it's rawest and most potent form. There is no real "bad guy" but a bold statement critisizing the abitions of the human race and at times is very biased but i believe it is true. (Too many selfish assholes out there.)

Anyhoo, the characters were all extremely well developed and the animation style is smooth and gladly not mainstream anime (i love style in drawing / animation). The quiet achiever in this film is also the musical score composer, can't read japanese to acknowledge the name but it's nothing but sheer beauty. Second to none.

My favourite piece is track number 30, look for it in kazaa "Ashitaka and San."
I've sent it to numerous people through msn to appreciate this type of genre but for those who have not downloaded it, i truly recommend it.

The story is perfect from start to finish. 10/10.
Despite not really studying for what is a really important exam tomorrow, i feel a great sense of liberty, joy, pride and knowing how beautiful the world can be through the eyes of someone else.

I guess this goes back to my dream of opening an animation studio. Nothing would make me happier to be on this Earth than to produce fine works like Mononoke. It is an inspiration, and a great honor to have been alive to witness and experience one of the greatest works out of Japan.
