Bring back the death penalty...

I got a email from someone urging me to attend a rally to support convicted herion smuggler Van Nguyen.

Nguyen pictured, Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

was sentenced to death last year when 400grams (nearly half a kilo) of heroin was detained from him by Singapore authorities last year.

He stands to be die by hanging in the next 10 days. If you think this is an article in support of his release. You are wrong.

I'm sick and tired of saving these scum, while i sympathise to his Mum and hoping her next child is bought up with more discipline i hope Van Nguyen is a message to others. What a disgrace; his Mum didn't flee wartorn Vietnam to Australia to raise a drug-dealer.

I don't understand how anyone would want to campaign for something so ridiculous. It's common knowledge, if you haven't heard by now that the importation of drugs results in death, maybe this face should ring a bell:

What really ticks me over is the excuse being used which is almost as bad as Shappelles. Instead of "it wasn't mine!" by Corby it's "i'm helping my twin brother clear his debts" Souce: http://www.prisonersoverseas.com/

Here's a solution you should've thought of dickhead: GET A JOB.

You aint helping no one clear debts by flying half way across the world (where the hell did he get the ticket money?) to corrupt and shit on the laws in Singapore.

If Singaporeans come here, if they go 10km's over the speed limit they will be fined. That's fair enough i think.
If we go there and chew bubble gum we have to respect the laws put in place by chewwing our shit elsewhere. Same with the drugs.

Seems everyone is so keen on saving this drug-dealer but i'm sure if the same supporters would want Van to live next door or to look after your kids you'd second guess it. It makes the Asian community look bad adding to the arguements for an already thin point of tolerence between our ethnic cultures and also makes Australia look like a convict country in support of drug-dealers.

Many would argue Van Nguyen is human and should be treated like one, fuck even Buffalo Bill, Chopper Reid and Charles Manson had mums and probably helped them with the washing at least once. That's the defence arguement: "he's a good kid and helps his mum with the washing" and all of a sudden he's a good kid. I can imagine him thinking of all the sweet profits he'd make from the sale and maybe use the money to buy himself a nice car or getting street cred from his crew.

Who's the "sick cunt" now?
Where's your "bros" now when you are sitting on death row, lonely and no one, especially me gives a shit about you.

If you're truly stupid enough to bring drugs to a country where you gonna get hanged then maybe you should. and if we as a country are stupid enough to support his cause then i think we really need a revision. Human rights by all means should protect the innocent.... a key word that has been lost in this media charged "brother helping, washing hanging drug smuggler" controversy.

Van admitted many times he has guilty and he was sorry.

Maybe he doesn't deserve to die, but what matters is principle and prevailing laws in place to keep the people of Singapore drug free. I respect that, and so should any would-be travellers.
The situation is exasterbated when the government is pleading with the Prime Minister and even The Queen to save this little runt's life. A admire the effort put in by his family and friends but trying to mitigate our of this with leverage that would put a significant pressure on a economic scale especially with trade is not ideal and i hope our Prime Minister is smart enough to know better. (I hope the queen supports this, it'll be funny because i don't see her even sticking up for our own Johnny Howard)

A heading for The Australian, "government works for Nguyen" made me sick.
The fact that Pell lobbied to the pope made me sick. Sif Nguyen would go to church, he'd be the bastard outside it trying to sell it to our kids.

Here's a good one, why don't the people who want Van Nguyen out take his place at the gallows... anyone?

It's one less drug dealer on the street, corrupting would-be drug users who steal, rob and plunder the realy innocent citizens who work, pay tax (that funds their god-damned welfare) when they can't afford to buy the drugs from our friend here, Van Nguyen.

I think we should bring back the death penalty. If everyone knows you're going to die if you sell drugs then i think that's a big deterent. I don't care what circumstance either because i definately ain't rich yet i still make ends meet without problems. Pham saiod to me, we should clean up Springvale by clearing out the druggies... his suggestion: "line em up and shoot all of them".

How right you are.

Hey,
thats so harsh. I got that email too. Ask yourself would you do it for your sister, mother? It was wrong yeah, but does he really deserve to die? It was his first crime he committed. Compare him to other crims who get off easy who commit even worser crimes. Killing someone isn't justice.

i also got that e-mail, and i feel really bad for his mum. as jase pointed out, she didn't risk her life coming to australia to have one of her sons end up being on death row.

he may not deserve to die, but someone who knowingly contravenes a country's law (and knows of the consequences) should have to face those consequences.

what would it be saying to others around the world, that laws can be intentionally broken and yet people can escape the punishment? i read some humanitarian propaganda saying "use your civil liberties to voice your opinion - in singapore you don't have any."

if that's the case, then why travel there.. or even flights that go via singapore? i'm not saying be smarter when smuggling drugs, i'm saying DON'T BE STUPID.

if it were someone i knew i would probably campaign, but i think its safe to say no one i know would be that stupid to put themsevels in that kind of situation. that may be ignorance or naitvety on my part, but we'll see how strong my argument stands if the time comes.

you're right CJ, he probably doesn't deserve to die - but hew knew the risks and consequences, yet chose to take that risk regardless.

If it was my sister i'd tell her how stupid she was.
Sure i'd put up a pointless campaign but you can't break a law just cuz it convenient when you know about the risks.

Their laws were made for a reason and that's so keep their country safe and free from drugs, i understand that point to better the community / nation.

In my opinon, if you know you're facing death and you still wanna do it... then yeh you probably deserve to die. Harsh but really, you have to be 5 years old and not watch any of the ads. And if i remember correctly they issue you a travel guide tell u specifically bringing drugs into another country results in death and no one, not even your mum or the queen will save you.

All i can say really is stiff shit.
I know better than to chew bubble gum in Singapore.

I'm sure you done a lot of stupid things before trying to be a "sick kant" and I'm sure you got caught for them too. So I believe they should have thrown your narrow minded ass in front of the firing squad too? No? Too harsh? Not according to yourself. Complete imbecile! You should really understand the story before you pass judgement. Utter moron.

I don't really have an opinion about this topic, but since I read the whole blog, I'll say this; stop trying to be so high an mighty and your grammar is really dodgy.

i somehow don't think the real issue here is whether or not people have good grammar.

come up with a decent argument.

Dear anonymous:

Whether i understand his story well enough and the motivations for the actions is not the issue.

The issue simply is: Why would you do something do blatantly idiotic when you know what kind of shit you'd be up for.

We all live in a system of rules and laws and if you think it's too harsh is if he was the only one to recieve the penalty, harsh is where he was forced to sell the drugs by force, harsh is where he did not know the consequences.

But here's what i'm arguing: He's 25, well educated young individual, the government warns us but if he chooses in his own right to make a quick buck and face death then he'd have to accept the consequence. It is harsh if the system that supports you works against you i.e communism and those who died working under facist regimes when they're trying to make a living.

Barbaric is the sentence? Perhaps.
But what solution do you suggest Singapore can offer to offenders who do in fact sell illicit substances?
I'm trying to understand why they've put such a system in place and i concluded that perhaps it was for the benefit of the the people who live there so it won't become a another corrupt city.

How do you think the Brits corrupted Hong Kong?
I agree i might've fallen out of line and would present myself as arrogant and harsh but i do sympathise with the families and friends involved.
Don't completely overlook what i have written next time.

Sure you might feel some pity for him, but what about the victims from his actions, the countless families hurt and destroyed?

Anonymous: Why would you read the entire blog, call me high and mighty then contradict yourself about my grammar. Seems someone else thinks they're high and mighty as well.

I recommend you don't read this blog if you don't have anything better to comment about than my grammar. Maybe you should stick to mainstream blogs about peoples daily lives with perfectly and politically correct grammar?

If i get anymore childish and non-constructive feedback i will disable the anonymous commenting system.

I thought this was a great post. I hate it when people don't have balls enough to leave their names after an attack. It looks to me like this guy learned English as a second language and I thought he was well versed in what he said. I myself speak read and write three languages and after learning Potuguese and Spanish my English suffers. The point still gets accross. I'm not even sure if I spelled accross right, but you know what, I don't care. Laws are laws and we should be subject to them and respect them whatever country we are in.

Um i dun see anything wrong with VEGAS' comment

and loki does it matter if he can speak three languages?

Lots of people speak multiple languages??

wtf

At 3:25 pm, Blogger ToFu said...

I think what loki was implying was sarcasm, knowing 3 languages makes him not racist(?).

Look, the morale of this article is: Don't risk small gains when the consequences definately outweigh the benefits.

No one wins.

sarcasm always backfires when you use it online.

to clear things up, i was suggesting (as jase said) that since he knows three languages, it would be stupid to say that Vegas is a racist.

Hey Jase.
I think your absolutely right. I mean you either got to be really stupid to bring drugs to Singapore or really stupid not to know of the consequences.
You think sending him to the death penalty is harsh. Maybe so. There can never be any justification for taking someone's life. ever.
But think of all the people's lives he could've destroyed if he was successful in smuggling it. Innocent people. Innocent families. By that time, it'd be too late to draw around our hands and bring back any lives.
Please people. Wake up. The world is a harsh and ugly place. The laws attempt to make it liveable. It's suppose to guide us. What good does it do if people who break have their mum come out saying "his a good boy" and then everything is OK? Why don't I just go out and rob a bank and my mum can say "she is a good daughter"?
Reality is: he broke a law. he wasn't forces and his not innocent. It's time he became a man and accept the consequence of his decision.
